<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Thank you to the great and wonderful</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">for creating a safe place for writers to come together and share journeys. My journey has taken a turn and no matter how much I fight it, I'm afraid I need to buckle up and enjoy the ride. </span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Everything happens for a reason, right?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Because of this, and the fact that I've broken every part of the Blogger Code of Conduct, I am taking a blogging hiatus. It's been a long time coming. I realize I've been working my way through the stages of grief when it comes to blogging.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>1. Denial</i></b>--I can still blog. I can find time.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>2. Anger</i></b>--Agh! I will find time to blog!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>3. Bargaining</i></b>--If I stay up really late, I can whip out a quick blog post. I know I probably can't find time to comment until Saturday, but I swear I'll get to it after I do laundry and take my kids to sports.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>4. Depression</i></b>--I miss my blogging friends. I miss hearing what everyone's up to. I miss doing bloghops and entering contests and helping out other bloggers :(</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><i>5. Acceptance</i></b>--I am not being a good blogging buddy. I need to prioritize and let it go (for now).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, for a time, I bid you adieu and wish you well. I hope to check in from time to time to find out where your writing journey is taking you!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>Happy writing :)</i></b></span></div>

When college freshman Liz Wagner hears her ex's voice for the first time since
he moved clear across the freaking country, she does what any respectable girl
would do: Dive into the girls' bathroom.</i><br />
<br />
<i>
Zach Roberts—the Zach Roberts—is back. And he’s everywhere Liz
looks—infiltrating her friend group, buddy-buddy with her brother. It’s enough
to ruin college altogether. But what choice does she have but to put on a happy
face and pretend he didn't leave her vulnerable and alone in a pile of
emotional wreckage?</i><br />

Pretending works, until tragedy strikes and the only person available for
comfort is the one person she wants to stay away from. When Zach turns out not
to be the jerk she convinced herself he was, but the boy she used to love, Liz
needs to decide whether to open her heart again to the boy who tore it out.</i><br />

on Long Island, NY with her boyfriend and Milton, their big eyed goldfish. She
has a hard time accepting the fact she’s nearing thirty which is why she writes
New Adult and Young Adult books, reliving the best and worst years of her life
through her characters. She put her love of writing on hold while she received
her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Dowling College. On November 11th
2011 at 11:11 she made a wish. Two hours later she was laid off. Jobless for
the first time since she was sixteen she was determined to make her wish come
true. Writing became her life again and after many nights of ignoring her
boyfriend to spend time with her characters, she finally received the call that
all her hard work, finger crossing and eye crossing paid off. She signed with
Berkley (Penguin) and her debut novel, <a href="http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18209476-never-again" target="_blank">(NEVER) AGAIN</a>, a NA romance, will be out
in Fall 2013. When she’s not writing,

<br /></div>

<a href="http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1366942400l/17704532.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Friday Night Alibi" border="0" height="320" src="http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1366942400l/17704532.jpg" width="194" /></a><br />
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;">In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. For a generous fee, she will be every trust-fund baby’s dream: a Friday-night alibi, the “girlfriend” or “BFF” that parents dream about. With college approaching in the fall, Kelli’s services are in demand more than ever, which means that her social life is nonexistent. But Kelli is A-okay with that. She’s raking in cash for school. Besides, relationships are tricky, and sometimes very messy. She’d rather be at home on Xbox LIVE, anyway. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.</span></span></i><br />
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;"> </span><br style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;">Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black., and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;">knows</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;"> her, like he </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;">cares </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia, serif; line-height: 19px;">about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.</span></span></i><br />

<br />
<a href="http://readingwritingandlovinit.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Cassie Mae</a> and I have come up with our own cast of <i><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17704532-friday-night-alibi" target="_blank">Friday Night Alibi'</a></i>s characters for when it becomes a blockbuster movie :)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: start;">
<span style="color: blue;">It’s time to cast my characters for FRIDAY NIGHT ALIBI! Hope is a big movie buff, so I knew this is exactly what I wanted to do for her blog stop.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: start;">
<span style="color: blue;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: start;">
<i><span style="font-size: x-small;">Her picks are first (and in blue), mine second (descriptions in black).</span></i></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b style="font-weight: bold;">Kelli Pinkins </b><i>aka</i><b style="font-weight: bold;"> Kel, Stinkins, Stinky</b></span></div>
</div>
<div style="font-weight: bold; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: blue;">Our leading lady, Kelli Pinkins:</span></span><br />
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sweet with a quick wit and a bit of fire, goes from hanging out at home playing video games because she's 'busy' being someone's alibi, to kicking butt on the tennis court, to having her best friend's back. And thanks to an unfortunate gum incident, she has to chop her blonde locks off in order to sport short hair she despises. Hayden Panattiere fit well :)<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">Chelsea Kane--</span><span style="color: blue;">Rocking the short blonde hair, and she’s got that spunk that Kelli has.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">My favorite line of Kelli’s: “You come any closer and I’ll chop off a nut.”</span></div>
<br /></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Sadie Poulson </b><i>aka</i><b> Sades</b></span></div>
<span style="color: blue;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: blue;">Next up is my MC’s best friend Sadie Poulsen.</span><br />
<br />
Kelli's best friend, fun loving, tries to get her bestie to be social, often uses her big doe eyes to win, always has Kel's best interests at heart (even if it doesn't come across that way sometimes). The eyes made me choose Sarah Hyland.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">Brittany Snow--</span><span style="color: blue;">I was looking at people for Alex, and Brittany and Freddie were in Pitch Perfect together, and actually, Brittany is super adorable and so perfect for Sadie.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">My favorite Sadie line: “You have the ‘glow.’ Like the one people usually say when couples do the nasty? I know, I know, you haven’t slept with him. I’m saying, <i>I</i> think that glow is often mistaken. I mean, hookers don’t glow do they? Unless they’re under a blacklight.”</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Chase Moroney </b><i>aka</i><b> Moron </b><i>aka</i><b> ... (can't give it away)</b></span></div>
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">Now, for the main man, Chase Moroney</span>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Ever changing eyes, total smart ass hiding a big thoughtful heart, and a secretly hunky body (that may or may not have been waxed). We picked the same person (read and you'll find out why) and Cassie's choice is much more handsome, but I went with the one wearing a black hoodie and scruff (again, read it and you'll know why).<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">Joseph Gordon-Levitt--</span><span style="color: blue;">I mean, who else? Yes, I went with the obvious choice, since Kelli describes Chase as a JGL look-alike. With scruff ;)</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">My favorite line of Chase’s: “Just so you know, I’ve never touched someone like that either.”</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></b>
<b><b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></b><br />
<b><b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></b>
<b><b><span style="font-size: large;">Alex Finnigan</span></b></b></div>
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">We'll end with Alex Finnigan:</span><br />
<br />
The alibiee? Not sure the correct term for him, but he's Kelli's most popular client. She alibis for him almost every weekend. He's a good boy who blurs the lines for Kelli. Is she just his alibi? Or is she more? Sterling Knight just looks like a sweet, parent-pleaser.<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: blue;">Freddie Stroma </span><span style="color: blue;">(You all knew I’d get a Harry Potter character in my casting ;))--</span><span style="color: blue;">My favorite line of Alex’s: “Thanks for that. Now I have even more to fear about something happening to . . . that area of my body.”</span></div>

Write. (Repeat.)</a> and suck big time. So bad, I was eager (okay, maybe a little desperate) to snatch up Cassie's offer for a critique partner. She was writing a YA fantasy that was a lot of fun to read and I wrote a YA post apocalyptic fraught with "that", "just", "very" and all the other beginner words that are entirely unnecessary. Cassie changed my ways.<br />
<br />
The next book she sent me to critique was this can't-put-down, where-do-you-come-up-with-this-hilarity?, you've-found-your-voice, THIS-IS-THE-ONE! story. And, although it's been a long time coming, it's almost here!!!!!!!!!!!!!<br />

<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: purple;">Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy ‘you only wish you were me’ reputation, burying who she really is—an all-out nerd. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;">The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Keeping up her popular rep is too important, and she’s so damn insecure to care about the consequences. But when Zoe’s sister takes her car for a ‘crash and burn into a tree’ joyride, her parents get her a replacement. A manual. Something she doesn’t know how to operate, but her next door neighbor Zak sure as heck does. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;"></span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;">Zak’s a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing “Use the Force” t-shirts. And Zoe’s got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn’t want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: purple;">She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.</span><span style="color: purple;"></span></div>

I got hired for the 2013-2014 school year! Yay! I'll be teaching second grade again at the school my kids go to, so double bonus!<br />
<br />
Because I started teaching again this year, I've written about 1,001 words in 9 months. I'm trying to look at it like a much needed break to make me really appreciate how much I love to write.<br />
<br />
And now that I have two months at home with my kids, I'll be writing as much as humanly possible. I'm so excited to get back into it! I've missed it so :) And you guys too!<br />
<br />
Do you have any fun writing plans? Or vacation plans? I hope to see you around the blogosphere this summer!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy writing :)</div>

And she has something new . . .<br />

<i style="color: purple;"><b>Rising star Cassie Mae introduces New Adult readers to a practical soon-to-be college freshman who seems to have everything—until a special guy shows her what she’s been missing.</b></i><br />

<span style="color: purple;">In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.<br /> <br /> Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black, and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really knows her, like he cares about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.<br /></span></blockquote>

exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands

<b>Book Description:</b><br />
<br />
Wind tunnels, torrential rains and earthquakes tear apart Casden. The cause of the world’s imbalance is unknown, but the mounting occurrences suggest there’s little time before life ceases to exist. <br />
<br />
Rydan Gale and Akara Nazreth are the only humans with the ability to wield magic. The tattoo on their necks and the discovery of an ancient book, dictate they are the key to the world’s survival. <br />
<br />
But the greatest obstacle for saving mankind isn’t the bizarre creatures, extreme betrayals and magic-fearing men hunting them. <br />
<br />
It’s that Akara doesn’t believe the world is worth saving. </div>

Eventually the day came when the voices in Kelley Lynn’s head were more insistent then her engineering professor’s. So instead of turning to her Thermodynamics book, Kelley brought up a blank page on her computer screen and wrote. Somewhere along the way she became a Young Adult author. <br />
<br />
Kelley was born and raised a Midwestern girl. She’s not afraid to sweat and fills her free time with softball, soccer and volleyball. (Though you probably don’t want her on your volleyball team.) She occasionally makes guest appearances as a female vocalist for area bands.<br />
<br />
You can find Kelley hanging out at her blog, <a href="http://getbetweenthebookends.blogspot.com/"><b><span style="color: #f6b26b;">titled in her name</span></b></a>, as well as the group blog she shares with her fellow critique partners, <a href="http://falling4fiction.blogspot.com/"><b><span style="color: #6fa8dc;">Falling for Fiction</span></b></a>. Kelley is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.<br />

Instead of talking about an insecurity today, I'm going to share a tiny celebration. I've been bit by the writing bug and it feels GR-R-REAT! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumbimg_700/1342028164GY07as.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Bee Writing on Leaf" border="0" height="320" src="http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumbimg_700/1342028164GY07as.jpg" width="320" /></a>It's been a while (uh, more than a while) since I've had a thought lasting longer than two seconds, a healthy immune system, and a smidgen of energy left for myself. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But the other day, my brain began solidifying from the mushy state I've muddled through for the first half of the school year. My energy returned after nearly a month of catching every germ known to mankind from my darling students. My house was somewhat clean and oraganized. My kids weren't screaming bloody murder, actually they were playing Wii . . . together. And basketball season has (mostly) ended. Life is good. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I think I'll enjoy this bug bite for a while. <span style="font-size: xx-small;">freestockimages.com</span></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
And since it's the day of mooshy, lovey-dovey stuff, I thought I'd share a steamy, albeit awkward scene from <i>Birds of a Feather</i>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“I’m
going to get something to drink. Anyone want anything?” I ask.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">I
get three nods and two head shakes before I skirt off to another table laden
with pop, juice, and punch in a bowl. I think I’ll stay away from any possibly
tampered with beverages. I grab an assortment of canned drinks and turn to
leave, smashing into a sturdy chest. The cans slip from my fingers, but are
caught between me and Raven when he smooshes closer to save them. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Nice
maneuver,” I joke and pin my leg to his, holding an ice-cold beverage between
us.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif; font-size: small;">He
chuckles, but </span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">doesn't</span><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif; font-size: small;"> back off, his throat inches from my mouth. “Got ‘em?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Huh?”
I shake my head and jostle a can into my grasp. “Uh, one. Give me a second.” I
wriggle against him, attempting to grab another pop, but it gets too close to
somewhere I should never touch in public, I mean, never touch since we’re just
friends too.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">Ah
f***.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Can
you help me out here?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">He
moves his face right next to mine so we’re standing cheek to cheek, our
shoulders aren’t touching, but everything else is. Three chilly pops holding us
apart. His palm finds my waist, slides down my hip onto my thigh, and reaches
in to grab the beverage pinned there between our legs. He hooks it in his hand,
reaches around behind me and sets it on the table.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“One
down, is that two more I feel?” <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">His
stubble barely brushes my cheek and I’m so tempted to turn my face to his, but
I focus on the cylindrical bulges holding us apart. “Yep, two more.” I giggle
and the can slips farther forcing us to smash our bodies together tighter. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">He
laughs harder in response, but I can tell it’s a nervous laugh. His hand finds
my waist again, but my shirt slipped up on the last movement so when he slides
his palm across my tummy and rests it above the button on my pants, I almost
moan. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Um,
Pigeon, I’m going to grab that can.” He chuckles again and I have to stifle the
urge to bite his neck. “I promise I’m not trying to cop a feel.” His hand
slides up to my ribs, fingers grazing my skin hooking beneath my shirt for a
second before grabbing the can resting between my boobs. “See?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“One
to go.” I pull back to look in his eyes. “I’ll get it.” I lick my lips and bite
on the bottom one as my left hand reaches behind his back, holding him to me,
while the other slides between us along the waste of his pants. “Don’t move.” <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Not
for the life of me.” The smirk on those lips is near impossible to resist. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">I
lick mine again, wishing my tongue was somewhere else, and his smirk grows into
a smile. I exhale and he presses closer to me with his hips, holding the can in
place. My fingers fumble over the button on his pants, down to the zipper and
over to the left. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“You
better stop right there.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“I
don’t have the can yet.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">His
smile is sinful. “You’re about to have something else.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">I
take a chance and shove my hand farther down, giggling at the expression on his
face when I pull my hand up with a lemonade pinched between two fingers. “See?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">Instead
of backing away, Raven steps toward me forcing me against the table. He reaches
around and grabs the other drinks, mouth next to my ear, and says, “I never
knew the beverage table was such a hot spot.” He stands between my legs,
holding four cans of pop and nods in the direction I came from. “Ready to
deliver these?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">My
body is on fire and my heart is knocking against my ribs, I’m sure he can feel
it. I put my hands on his hips to pull myself up from the table and realize
what a stupid move that was when I’m hanging on to his pants and only a couple
inches of night air separate us.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">“Or
shall we stay here and play another round of grab the pop can?” His caramel
laughter floats around my head and I’m ready to lick his skin when another
whistle breaks through.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">Shiba,
my savior. “What’s taking so long with those drinks, Pigeon? You get lost?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">Yeah,
I’m lost all right. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<a href="http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/p/the-insecure-writers-support-group.html" target="_blank"><img height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSHwrGNX8VNzbu9S4To-Y8aPJRBbt3aJx27OJLmwz1k4ROxb_BcdYH2TM4wV_nX95tlQqg7y8Pq_qWdBaGeNIdB81LQuNwLQmSqO3_ebJJRQUxGAgOtXiyVBC-OCCA3IeHKGKbUfwMBY/s320/InsecureWritersSupportGroup.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you Alex J Cavenaugh for your ingenious IWSG :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Query writing . . . that's an entire insecure post itself, better yet, a year's worth of IWSG posts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyhow, I digress. I'm referring to that closing paragraph today. The one where you state your title, word count, and hopefully, in one smooth turn of phrase, convince the agent they MUST read your work. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How does one do that? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've seen the "Because you represent Dean Koontz, I think my writing is similar, so you should represent me for sure!" But really? Dean Koontz? He's published, like a million times published, and my writing is NO way similar, way beyond the I'm NOT published similar.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://c95711.r11.cf3.rackcdn.com/peacock_1.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><a href="http://freedigitalphotos.net/">freedigitalphotos.net</a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I'll tuck my tail feathers and avoid that attempt at closing the query.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Often it's suggested to say something along the lines of, "I saw on your blog, on twitter, in an interview on AWESOMEBLOG, on Query Shark, and seven thousand other places that you love historical zombie romances, so I know you'll fall head-off-rotting-corpse's-shoulders for my story."</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://c95711.r11.cf3.rackcdn.com/sexy_target02.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://freedigitalphotos.net/" style="font-size: x-small;">freedigitalphotos.net</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If I'm stalking someone, I feel a little uncomfortable admitting it, even if it is an agent and they know we have them in our radar on a daily basis.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another way is to mention a connection like, "According to your tweets and the convo we had about manuscript interests, I'm sending you my amazing novel because you told me to."</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://c95711.r11.cf3.rackcdn.com/oppoAMBRO02-5729.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://freedigitalphotos.net/" style="font-size: x-small;">freedigitalphotos.net</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I'm not that cool, and I'm a bit of a chicken. So even if I was miraculously having a conversation with an agent, I would mess it up and wuss out before getting to the "Hey, send me your work!" line.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Needless to say, the closing paragraph of my query is as bare bones as you can get.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><i><span style="color: blue;">BIRDS OF A FEATHER is a gritty and emotional, young
adult contemporary complete at 60,000 words. Thank you for your time and consideration.</span></i><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Maybe I'll get the guts to figure some way to strike an agent's fancy (kiss butt) in a skillful, knowledgeable way bringing me one step closer to publication . . . </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="http://c95711.r11.cf3.rackcdn.com/Pr_085_-_TRI_-_01_12_10_-_019.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://freedigitalphotos.net/" style="font-size: x-small;">freedigitalphotos.net</a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Any suggestions? What's your method of piquing agent interest?</div>
<br />
<br />

I had a horrible nightmare last night. The kind where I wake up in a sweat, heart pounding, near crying, not wanting to go back to sleep. My first thought was, I need to write this down! But then I found myself falling asleep and back in the middle of the same nightmare, only tweaked. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This time, I was being grabbed by Danny DeVito,</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT0Z8sYkwl1f6PwXfnfRzSEbG4LUfAna2N8B9R7iIPf-5g5wUHksw" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(but with hair like this) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSif0J9F5xZul5jtAFjpBZw83Q6herSFsTjJTTzo348u2UmVLf7" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
a rag held over my mouth, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRhvuUDYcWssczvzOtsiQP-__WW12WZbUzpaLh7gySr12d1qQHwRA" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">and thrown in a swimming pool, told to float on the lily pads. </span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSdOSzESJUQZkXoKBLjDsPCBgSyWULnIQ5asfdfYQT7-Gvn3Ltn" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then the lily pads turned into floaties (I think my brain was trying to make sense of the situation). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSbjQW9cs8OihgcGxs8Aw1yDyzy2I-Bc69JtGOyMyXxr_yuRRp2bA" /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">I woke again, telling myself to remember this dream and the intense feelings accompanying it (minus the floaties cause the lily pads are more interesting). The next time I fell asleep, I was writing my dream down, making sure to express every scary feeling, and since I'm now teaching again, my dream turned into me helping my students write scary stories. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQgG2sZHteunilKSbJ_5mijqVFGzkVRJLLIeB5tay8KviIuv2DE" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">It made total sense in the dream, and I must say I did a great lesson on writing, but having seven-year-olds write about getting kidnapped by a psycho doesn't seem like a good idea in the morning.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQK8e0pkXNFmmzSw6kVH3BVDr7FJesc_22tfa2QM_pc5frXzdlYlw" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">And looking at the string of images going along with my nightmare, I'm not thinking it was really worth all the effort to remember. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">What do you think? Do I have a story here? ;) </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Any good dreams (or nightmares) worth remembering lately?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Happy writing :)</span></div>

I finally have come to a place where I needed to write a synopsis for <i>Birds of a Feather</i>. However, it's been ages since I wrote one for <i>My Protector</i>. And since that didn't lead to a #1 Best Seller, I sort of tucked it away into the forget-I-ever-wrote-that category. Suffice to say, I needed a refresher on how to write a synopsis.</div>

<i>It’s stupid to fall for your brother’s ex. It’s even worse to enlist another’s help to win the ex over. But Brody is desperate and Hayley, his partner in American Sign Language, is more than willing to lend him a few tips. <br /><br />She’s the school’s matchmaker,’ and with her bizarre and positive personality, Brody finds her easy to talk to, even about the most awkward situations. Hayley’s tips seem to be working, but as Brody learns more about his matchmaker, he starts finding reasons to spend time with her, and not the girl he thought he was in love with. <br /><br />But Hayley isn’t ready to fall for anyone. Labeled the “Funny Fat Friend” within her group, her self image makes it impossible for Brody to share his feelings without Hayley shrugging it off as a joke. <br /><br />Convincing her Brody can, and did, fall for the “Funny Fat Friend” turns out to be harder than simply falling in love.</i><br />
<br />

<b><span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">SH*T MY INNER-CRITIC SAYS<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We all have an inner-critic. I think that is what Julie Cameron calls it in her book The Artist’s Way, which by the way is a fabulous book and well worth working through if you have the time and discipline. Anyway, your inner-critic is the voice in your head that says all the worst things at the absolute worst times. Your inner-critic is an eternal pessimist who believes only in doom, bad luck and catastrophe. Your inner-critic is an ugly, small, mean, petty little a-hole whose mission in life is to demoralize you and reduce you to tears at every turn. Your inner-critic has precisely zero faith in you and your abilities. Your inner-critic loves to kick you while you’re down. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here is an example of sh*t my inner-critic says: </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“That is the worst piece of writing anyone has produced in any language ever.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’re going to put that scene THERE?” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your idea is crap. Your writing is crap.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your book makes no sense. You couldn’t string together a viable plot if your life depended on it.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You need to give up. You suck. Your book sucks. Your writing sucks.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You have no chance of being published ever.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“No one in their right mind would enjoy this.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your characters are flat and one-dimensional.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your characters are stupid and no reader will ever relate to them.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“That’s been done about a million times.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Ugh. Just stop now. Stop writing. Now. I can’t take this suck-fest a minute longer.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Mwah hah hah. That was atrocious! Good thing you kept your day job.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your book is too long.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your book is too short.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your query blows.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’ll never get an agent.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You don’t have enough ‘credentials’.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’re worthless. Your writing is worthless.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Why are you still writing stuff? You still don’t get it after all these years? You cannot write! You are the worst.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’re not smart enough to write this book.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You didn’t do enough research. In fact if you spent the rest of your natural life researching, you’d still not have done enough research.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You could write a thousand books. None of them will be published.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Ouch, that passage is awkward and wooden. What is this? The first grade? Why don’t you just put it down on paper in crayon?” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You can keep writing but you’re never going to get any better.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“For the love of all that is holy, no one is ever going to want to read this crap.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your formatting is wrong.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’re just plain wrong.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“That’s not realistic—even if it is fiction.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Seriously, this is so bad it’s making me nauseous. Please. Put. The. Pen. Down.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Revise all you want, this book is not going to suck any less.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You have too many characters.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You don’t have enough characters.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“This is too simplistic.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“This is too complex.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“This is boring. Wait, tell me again why you continue to write?” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“This is too fast-paced. There is no depth.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“Your plot is too convoluted. Your subplots barely qualify as subplots. Did I mention that you suck?” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“You’re a horrible writer.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“What’s that? Another rejection? Reeeally? Well what did you expect? You’re terrible. Get used to rejection because that is all you’ll ever see.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
“This is embarrassing. I’m embarrassed to even be your inner-critic.” </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You have to learn to shut him/her down! It’s not easy. The slightest misstep and your inner-critic thinks he/she has license to walk all over you immediately. They love to thumb their noses at you and yell, “I told you so!” Your inner-critic can turn you into a nervous wreck. You can ignore it. I’m sure many other writers—published and pre-published—have developed techniques for dealing with their inner-critics. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For me, I let her have her five minutes. Right at the outset. I let her get it all out and then I say, “Are you done?” Because that’s all she gets. Five minutes. She can say whatever she wants for five minutes and then I’m finished listening to her. I’m moving on. Forging ahead. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What does your inner-critic say and how do you shut him/her down?</div>

<b><span style="color: purple; font-size: large;">It's a Cover Blitz and Blog Giveaway!!!</span></b></div>
<br />
OCEAN KILLS, the first book of the Ocean Breeze Series by Jade Hart, will be released in early December 2012. In order to celebrate, free copies of Ocean Kills are available to be won, either by simply liking Jade Hart on Facebook, or finding the words "Ocean Breeze" in either the current book you're reading, a TV show, or on any item such as air-freshener, shampoo, or body-wash! When you start looking, those words are everywhere!<br />
<br />
For example, this was found a few days ago:<br />

I think I first stalked her after reading a sample of her writing on a blog hop and couldn't wait to read more of her stuff :) A bit ago, I saw her book trailer on <a href="http://lisalregan.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Lisa L Regan's</a> blog and was blown away. Here it is...<br />

<i>Tyler Karras is an honest man, a transplanted Brit living
the American dream, but his charmed life takes an unexpected turn when his
brother, Nick, is coerced into joining ranks with <st1:place w:st="on">San Francisco</st1:place>’s Russian mafia. Ty intervenes
to secure Nick’s freedom, yet only succeeds in incurring their wrath. With no
choice but to accept Nick’s new life, Ty returns to his own, but his dreams are
dashed when his wife—pregnant with their first child—is killed, the victim of a
reckless crime.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Despondent and bitter, Ty macerates his grief in alcohol. From the depths of
the bottle screams a voice, howling for vengeance. His target is a stranger,
the woman who drew his wife toward her death. He doesn’t know her, but he’ll
find her, and when he does, he will make her pay, for a deal has been struck
with Nick’s Russian associates, enslaving her into a life of bondage. But as Ty
moves forward in a cloud of alcohol, he mistakes the wrong woman for his
intended victim and now all his plans have gone straight to hell.</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>With his eyes made clear by the stark reality of his mistake, Ty is driven,
compelled by remorse and a relentless sense of guilt to make amends and protect
Hannah Maguire, the innocent woman whose life he has derailed. He vows to keep
her safe and out of the Russians’ hands, but they’re holding Nick as leverage
to force Ty to complete their deal and turn over the girl. Once again, he must
fight to free his brother, miring all three lives in further jeopardy. But Ty
can’t do it all: Save the girl, his brother and his own soul. One of them must
make the ultimate sacrifice.</i></div>
