She shoots, she scores!

FreeDigitalPhotos.net

I scored a goal last night! Picture that at about 10:30 pm under the lights. Yep, that's what my shot looked like. It was so pretty! I did a tiny jump of victory--I can't help myself, I know it's not super sportsman like, but it happens so rarely I get a bit besides myself with shock and giddiness.

I've played soccer since I was a wee-one and I can count the number of goals I've scored on my fingers and toes. My soccer skills sound astounding right? Don't let my goal tally fool you. I'm a defender, my job is not to score, but to keep others from scoring. And I LOVE IT! Especially when playing coed. There's nothing like flat-out stopping a dude who thinks he's gonna juke me. It's awesome!

My friend and teammate likes to call me the underestimated one cause I'm not big. My soccer pants were purchased in the boys' section at Target and I ordered my shoes from the kids' catalog. So when a guy sees me sprinting toward him, his thoughts are not of intimidation. And I'm not the least bit afraid that this guy has 75+ pounds on me and plans on running me over or shooting the ball at my head. I get more calls against me than for me.

So although my goal felt very good, okay sooooooooooooo very good, stealing the ball at my end of the field from the feet of a cocky male who doesn't even have me on their radar is way better :)

The real point of this blog post is to remind people they have a few hours to attempt the Manuscripts to Movies trivia challenge at Cinema Challenge Cavalcade. Answers and point totals will be posted at midnight and then Joshua's trivia challenge begins. He has a special tribute to the Oscars for the upcoming week. Please won't you come and play?

  1. Congrats on your goal! I have the utmost respect for soccer players. I got shin splints, just to miss out on that unit in PE. (I really did get shin splints, and was so happy I did. How sad is that!)

    1. I got shin splints in track, gave that up to play tennis and never got them again. They hurt!

  2. That is a pretty goal! And screw sportsmanship. Jump like a maniac! But this is coming from a person who fouled out of every basketball game she played in. ;)

  5. Brilliant. I love football, and I love that more women are playing it. (Even though I only watch!).

  6. So jealous! I want to get a soccer team together so bad! I love it. And co-ed would be a blast. You go girl!

And I have been so busy this week I haven't had a chance to look at the Manuscripts to Movies. :( I'm so sorry. I will try to hop over and find time to participate. :) Such fun ideas.

    1. I was thinking of you and Kelley when I wrote this post, you gals are my fellow writer-soccer-blogging teammates :) I hope you find a team! With Spring and Summer coming up, I bet people will want to play :) I took quite a few years off from playing. Now that I'm back, I would give up almost anything to play. I get a little (that might be an under exaggeration) grumpy if I go too long without it ;)

Joshua's challenge will be fun! Hope you can play that too :)

  7. When I lived in England I was on an rec football league, I was the only girl. I played defense. It was really informal, no refs, so you would get fouled hard all the time. But there was no better feeling than taking the ball from a guy who had ALOT more weight on you.

I envy you scoring, I tried once or twice to take the ball down the field but the guys were just way to rough.

  8. Congrats on your goal! AWESOMUNDO! As a little kid growing up in Europe, soccer is all I lived and breathed. Man, I remember playing till 10-12 on those hot summer nights...there were treasured and beautiful times in my childhood!

    Anyway, awesome going, awesomeness! ;)

    1. Oh that would be so fun! It's a dream of mine to play in Europe somewhere, any field with anyone, just to play in a country that loves it so much :)

  9. That's awesome! I am completely terrible at sports, I literally would rather run or cry than do sports in PE in high school/middle/elementary school. That's great that you scored a goal and like doing it. ;)
