Friday Night Alibi by Cassie Mae

The amazing Cassie Mae, what can I say about her . . . she's the best! And she has something new . . .

Rising star Cassie Mae introduces New Adult readers to a practical soon-to-be college freshman who seems to have everything—until a special guy shows her what she’s been missing.

In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. For a generous fee, she will be every trust-fund baby’s dream: a Friday-night alibi, the “girlfriend” or “BFF” that parents dream about. With college approaching in the fall, Kelli’s services are in demand more than ever, which means that her social life is nonexistent. But Kelli is A-okay with that. She’s raking in cash for school. Besides, relationships are tricky, and sometimes very messy. She’d rather be at home on Xbox LIVE, anyway. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.

Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black, and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really knows her, like he cares about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.

Advance praise for Friday Night Alibi

“Totally entertaining with as many swoon-worthy moments as hilarious ones, Friday Night Alibi is a must-read.”—Jolene Perry, co-author of Out of Play

“A fun, funny, and fantastic story, this is one you will read in a day, and pick up to re-read again the next.”—Kelley Lynn, author of Fraction of Stone

I tell ya, she is one of the most hilarious people on the planet, and she has an incredibly positive attitude. She's always there to lift people up with a funny or the kindest words possible. Here's a little bit more about her (in her own words) :)

Cassie Mae is a nerd to the core from Utah, who likes to write about other nerds who find love. Her angel children and perfect husband fan her and feed her grapes while she clacks away on the keyboard. Then she wakes up from that dream world and manages to get a few words on the computer while the house explodes around her. When she’s not writing, she’s spending time with the youth in her community as a volleyball and basketball coach, or searching the house desperately for chocolate.

After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

About the Author:
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

Excerpt:

I heard a heavy sigh and turned toward it. It was Victor. He was leaving the elevator down the hall and coming toward his grandma’s room. He had seen me and didn’t seem happy about it.

He wore faded jeans, a T-shirt, and a thin jacket. Too casual. I shook my head. The fact that my dream Victor and this real Victor were exactly the same physically, while their clothing styles and posture were the opposite of each other still boggled my mind.

He came to a stop before me. “You again.” There was disdain in his tone. I cringed.

“How are you?” I managed to ask and immediately felt silly. I had planted myself here in this hallway for over an hour waiting for him, and when he finally arrived, I didn’t know what to say. Though I really did want to know how he was. The last time I had seen him in the flesh, he’d been jerking on the floor of the hospital’s garage, in pain. “What was that … ah … before …?”” I trailed off, hoping he would understand what I was referring to.

He shrugged, his sea-green eyes still staring at me with suspicion. “I don’t know. By the way, how do you know my name?”

I twirled a lock of my hair around my index finger as I considered my answer. I wanted to answer him. I wanted to be honest, but he would never believe me.

As if my answer would pop out of the walls, I scanned the hallway.

At the end of the corridor, a nurse left a room and entered another.

“The nurse,” I almost shouted, hoping he wouldn’t notice my sudden lie. I avoided his inquisitive eyes. “I heard a nurse calling you earlier that day.”

His deadpan expression hid his thoughts and didn’t let me know if he was buying it or not.

“What did you do to me last night?” he asked, crossing his arms. God, I hated how his voice and his posture were so guarded and mistrustful. I wasn’t used to it.

“What do you mean?”

“When you touched me, the shock and the pain went away. How did you do that?”

“I don’t know.” This time I wasn’t lying. I really didn’t know. He frowned, clearly still suspicious. “Seriously, I have no idea.”

His shoulders stiffened. “What are you doing here? What do you want?”

My eyes widened as I retreated a few steps, trying to avoid his toxic tone.

Yes, he looked like my Victor—the same voice, the same hair, the same face, the same mouth that had offered me smiles that had rendered me breathless many, many times. I wanted to touch him, to embrace him, to tell him everything was going to be okay. Maybe if I touched him, he would remember me and he would want to touch me too.

I came closer to him, looking deeply into those wary green eyes, my fingers itching to stroke his skin, to feel it smoldering under my caress. But I didn’t. He was like my Victor, but he wasn’t my Victor. The Victor from my visions would never speak to me like this. He would never snap at me. No, no. My Victor loved my company, loved to hear me sing, loved to embrace me and inhale my scent.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice croaking under the heavy pressure inside my chest.

Then, I walked away.

Fraction of Stone--Kelley Lynn

I met Kelley through Fraction of Stone and fell in love with her writing instantly. Emotional, adventurous, and beautifully detailed, this story has it all! Before we dive into Fraction of Stone, let’s get to know Kelley a wee bit more J

Kelley is an engineer by day and writes, sings, paints, plays a bazillion sports, runs half marathons, and conquers trivia by night. If you looked up Renaissance woman in the dictionary, this is what you would see . . .

So my first question, my dear Kelley, is how do you accomplish so much?
Well, as my coworker likes to say, I’m an orphan. J Meaning I don’t have a family of my own yet so I get to decide what I want to do with my time. It also helps that I don’t spend a whole lot of time on the internet, watching TV or movies. (Just ask anyone about my movie knowledge. It’s nonexistent J)

One more thing about Kelley is that she has the most positive attitude on the planet. What is something that lifts your spirits and gives you strength?
Music. Definitely. My mood is so attached to music it’s crazy. Music also really helps me get in the mindset to write as well.

I’ve had the privilege of reading much of your writing (and it’s all brilliant!), can you share a bit about what you have on the horizon?
Sure! I’m about to go on sub mission for a YA Science Fiction. (solo project) Jenny Morris and I have been on sub for a bit with our YA Contemporary (fingers still crossedJ). And Jessica Salyer and I are just going on sub to agents for our YA Fairytale Parody. (New fingers crossedJ). So I don’t go insane, I’m writing a YA Thriller. Because waiting is torture! J

Favorites:
Favorite thing in your work bag/purse? Nook
Favorite place to hang out online? Oh Gosh. I don’t really. But sometimes I use facebook J
Favorite comfort food? Ice cream, pizza, sushi, cohocolate. And, and, and, haha.
Favorite smell? Rain
Favorite shoes? Running shoes

And now on to Kelley’s stunning release, Fraction of Stone . . .

Fraction of Stone by Kelley Lynn
Release Date: March 21st, 2013 by Sapphire Star Publishing
Genre: YA Fantasy

Book Description:

Wind tunnels, torrential rains and earthquakes tear apart Casden. The cause of the world’s imbalance is unknown, but the mounting occurrences suggest there’s little time before life ceases to exist.

Rydan Gale and Akara Nazreth are the only humans with the ability to wield magic. The tattoo on their necks and the discovery of an ancient book, dictate they are the key to the world’s survival.

But the greatest obstacle for saving mankind isn’t the bizarre creatures, extreme betrayals and magic-fearing men hunting them.

It’s that Akara doesn’t believe the world is worth saving.

About the Author:

Eventually the day came when the voices in Kelley Lynn’s head were more insistent then her engineering professor’s. So instead of turning to her Thermodynamics book, Kelley brought up a blank page on her computer screen and wrote. Somewhere along the way she became a Young Adult author.

Kelley was born and raised a Midwestern girl. She’s not afraid to sweat and fills her free time with softball, soccer and volleyball. (Though you probably don’t want her on your volleyball team.) She occasionally makes guest appearances as a female vocalist for area bands.

You can find Kelley hanging out at her blog, titled in her name, as well as the group blog she shares with her fellow critique partners, Falling for Fiction. Kelley is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.

Bit by the bug!

Instead of talking about an insecurity today, I'm going to share a tiny celebration. I've been bit by the writing bug and it feels GR-R-REAT!

Bee Writing on LeafIt's been a while (uh, more than a while) since I've had a thought lasting longer than two seconds, a healthy immune system, and a smidgen of energy left for myself.

But the other day, my brain began solidifying from the mushy state I've muddled through for the first half of the school year. My energy returned after nearly a month of catching every germ known to mankind from my darling students. My house was somewhat clean and oraganized. My kids weren't screaming bloody murder, actually they were playing Wii . . . together. And basketball season has (mostly) ended. Life is good.

I think I'll enjoy this bug bite for a while.         freestockimages.com

Happy writing :)
