5 Stages of Blogger Loss

Thank you to the great and wonderful
for creating a safe place for writers to come together and share journeys. My journey has taken a turn and no matter how much I fight it, I'm afraid I need to buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Everything happens for a reason, right?

This is me . . . chasing time . . .

Because of this, and the fact that I've broken every part of the Blogger Code of Conduct, I am taking a blogging hiatus. It's been a long time coming. I realize I've been working my way through the stages of grief when it comes to blogging.

1. Denial--I can still blog. I can find time.

2. Anger--Agh! I will find time to blog!

3. Bargaining--If I stay up really late, I can whip out a quick blog post. I know I probably can't find time to comment until Saturday, but I swear I'll get to it after I do laundry and take my kids to sports.

4. Depression--I miss my blogging friends. I miss hearing what everyone's up to. I miss doing bloghops and entering contests and helping out other bloggers :(

5. Acceptance--I am not being a good blogging buddy. I need to prioritize and let it go (for now).

So, for a time, I bid you adieu and wish you well. I hope to check in from time to time to find out where your writing journey is taking you!

Happy writing :)

Switched

Cassie Mae's Switched

Cassie Mae redefines the New Adult genre with a novel that answers the eternal question:

What do you do when you’re head-over-heels for your best friend’s guy?

Ever since high school, Kayla has been crazy for gorgeous football player Talon. But before she could muster the courage to tell him, he became a hot item with her beautiful BFF, Reagan. The only person who knows Kayla’s secret is Wesley, Talon’s best bud—and he’s got it bad for Reagan. Now they’re all in college together, hanging out 24/7. For Kayla, seeing the two lovebirds together is absolutely unbearable. So Kayla and Wesley hatch a plot to drive them apart. But time is ticking and they must act now, before Talon gives Reagan the Christmas gift she’s been waiting for.
Sure enough, the once-happy couple is fighting, Reagan suddenly can’t get enough of Wesley’s goofy sense of humor, and Talon seems to be paying more attention to Kayla than a guy who’s “just a friend” ever should. But something just isn’t right. Then Kayla and Wesley accidentally spend a night together, and discover a hitch they never considered: that switching partners may not lead to a perfect ending after all.

I know I say this every time Cassie writes ANOTHER book, but this one is so much fun to read!

They ALL are :)

(Never) Again

Are you ready for Theresa's GORGEOUS cover reveal?

Just when she had finally moved on…

…He moved back.

When college freshman Liz Wagner hears her ex's voice for the first time since he moved clear across the freaking country, she does what any respectable girl would do: Dive into the girls' bathroom.

Zach Roberts—the Zach Roberts—is back. And he’s everywhere Liz looks—infiltrating her friend group, buddy-buddy with her brother. It’s enough to ruin college altogether. But what choice does she have but to put on a happy face and pretend he didn't leave her vulnerable and alone in a pile of emotional wreckage?

Pretending works, until tragedy strikes and the only person available for comfort is the one person she wants to stay away from. When Zach turns out not to be the jerk she convinced herself he was, but the boy she used to love, Liz needs to decide whether to open her heart again to the boy who tore it out.

STUNNING isn't it?
Now for more on Theresa :)

Theresa Paolo lives in the same town she grew up in on Long Island, NY with her boyfriend and Milton, their big eyed goldfish. She has a hard time accepting the fact she’s nearing thirty which is why she writes New Adult and Young Adult books, reliving the best and worst years of her life through her characters. She put her love of writing on hold while she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Dowling College. On November 11th 2011 at 11:11 she made a wish. Two hours later she was laid off. Jobless for the first time since she was sixteen she was determined to make her wish come true. Writing became her life again and after many nights of ignoring her boyfriend to spend time with her characters, she finally received the call that all her hard work, finger crossing and eye crossing paid off. She signed with Berkley (Penguin) and her debut novel, (NEVER) AGAIN, a NA romance, will be out in Fall 2013.  When she’s not writing, she’s behind a camera or can be found in the blogosphere or on Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook.

Friday Night Alibi by Cassie Mae--Cast of Characters

Friday Night Alibi
In the wealthy town of Sundale, Kelli Pinkins has hatched the perfect plan to capitalize on her sweet reputation. For a generous fee, she will be every trust-fund baby’s dream: a Friday-night alibi, the “girlfriend” or “BFF” that parents dream about. With college approaching in the fall, Kelli’s services are in demand more than ever, which means that her social life is nonexistent. But Kelli is A-okay with that. She’s raking in cash for school. Besides, relationships are tricky, and sometimes very messy. She’d rather be at home on Xbox LIVE, anyway. Then the unexpected happens: She meets college stud Chase Maroney.

Chase isn’t like the preppy, privileged guys Kelli usually meets in Sundale. For starters, he’s twentysomething, always wears black., and he shoots back one-liners as fast as she can dish them out. But Kelli’s attempts to drive Chase away falter when she realizes that he treats her like he really knows her, like he cares about knowing her. When Kelli finally gives in to the delicious kiss she’s been fighting for so long, she faces a tough decision: make Chase a real-life boyfriend and risk her heart . . . or keep her clients and lose her first true love.

Cassie Mae and I have come up with our own cast of Friday Night Alibi's characters for when it becomes a blockbuster movie :)

It’s time to cast my characters for FRIDAY NIGHT ALIBI! Hope is a big movie buff, so I knew this is exactly what I wanted to do for her blog stop.

Her picks are first (and in blue), mine second (descriptions in black).

Kelli Pinkins aka Kel, Stinkins, Stinky

Our leading lady, Kelli Pinkins:

Sweet with a quick wit and a bit of fire, goes from hanging out at home playing video games because she's 'busy' being someone's alibi, to kicking butt on the tennis court, to having her best friend's back. And thanks to an unfortunate gum incident, she has to chop her blonde locks off in order to sport short hair she despises. Hayden Panattiere fit well :)

Chelsea Kane--Rocking the short blonde hair, and she’s got that spunk that Kelli has.
My favorite line of Kelli’s: “You come any closer and I’ll chop off a nut.”

Sadie Poulson aka Sades

Next up is my MC’s best friend Sadie Poulsen.

Kelli's best friend, fun loving, tries to get her bestie to be social, often uses her big doe eyes to win, always has Kel's best interests at heart (even if it doesn't come across that way sometimes). The eyes made me choose Sarah Hyland.

Brittany Snow--I was looking at people for Alex, and Brittany and Freddie were in Pitch Perfect together, and actually, Brittany is super adorable and so perfect for Sadie.
My favorite Sadie line: “You have the ‘glow.’ Like the one people usually say when couples do the nasty? I know, I know, you haven’t slept with him. I’m saying, I think that glow is often mistaken. I mean, hookers don’t glow do they? Unless they’re under a blacklight.”

Chase Moroney aka Moron aka ... (can't give it away)

Now, for the main man, Chase Moroney.

Ever changing eyes, total smart ass hiding a big thoughtful heart, and a secretly hunky body (that may or may not have been waxed). We picked the same person (read and you'll find out why) and Cassie's choice is much more handsome, but I went with the one wearing a black hoodie and scruff (again, read it and you'll know why).

Joseph Gordon-Levitt--I mean, who else? Yes, I went with the obvious choice, since Kelli describes Chase as a JGL look-alike. With scruff ;)
My favorite line of Chase’s: “Just so you know, I’ve never touched someone like that either.”

Alex Finnigan

We'll end with Alex Finnigan:

The alibiee? Not sure the correct term for him, but he's Kelli's most popular client. She alibis for him almost every weekend. He's a good boy who blurs the lines for Kelli. Is she just his alibi? Or is she more? Sterling Knight just looks like a sweet, parent-pleaser.

Freddie Stroma (You all knew I’d get a Harry Potter character in my casting ;))--My favorite line of Alex’s: “Thanks for that. Now I have even more to fear about something happening to . . . that area of my body.”

There you go! Thank you to Hope for letting me push my way on her blog for my blog tour! You rock, woman. And don’t forget to check out FRIDAY NIGHT ALIBI! ;) Mwa!

Liebster Blog Award

Liebster Blog Award

Thank you Sherri Ellis for the award! It's been a while since I've received one, so this is a treat :)

Receiving this award means I get to share eleven things about myself, answer eleven questions, and nominate eleven people. Here goes it...

Part One: Eleven Things About Me

1. I love the sun. I may or may not have a tattoo of one.

2. I enjoy being at a beach and by a pool, but don't love water. I could go the rest of my life without swimming if need be. My children would probably have something to say about that.

3. I can wiggle my ears, my eyebrows, and my nose (two different ways).

4. I love fireworks. We watched a great show over Lake Chelan this year, it was awesome being there with my family and cheering the pyrotechnics with them.

5. I get motion sick if I read in a car or sit in a bad seat.

6. However, I love roller coasters (the faster and bumpier the better!).

7. Our garden is amazing this year, like a mini green wonderland of impossibility (especially considering I have a green thumb).

8. I make most cats drool when I pet them, not sure why, and I didn't notice until my sister pointed this out to me recently.

9. My latest favorite show is Sons of Anarchy.

10. My latest favorite book series is the Mara Dyer Trilogy (can't wait for book 3!).

11. I have become a recent Pinterest addict (thank you Jenny!).

Part Two: Eleven Questions

1. Favorite color?
*Blue

2. If I could change or make a law, what would it be?
*People who drive below the speed limit are not allowed to drive ever again.

3. Do you believe individual personality characteristics have more impact from environment or genetics?
*I am a sociology major, so I should believe most things are impacted by environment. However, after having children, I am amazed how many little things have been passed to my children.

4. Do you believe there are other life forms in the universe?
*Absolutely!

5. Can you remember your last dream? What was it?
*Something about my son telling me something. It was very important in my dream :)

6. What movie most impacted your childhood?
*Goonies or Star Wars or Never Ending Story

7. What is your fear?
*Snakes

8. If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
*Happiness and love for everyone

9. What was the last song you listened to?
*Bright Eyes "First Day of My Life"

10. Who is the one person I would want to spend eternity with?
*My family. I know that's cheating, but together, they make me whole so...

11. When was the last time you smiled?
*At dinner right before coming up to my computer. I made a really disgusting meal and kept secretly putting the chicken back into the serving dish until my husband caught me :)

Part Three: Eleven Bloggers (the last 11 people who commented on my blog--thank you!)

Happy writing :)

How to Date a Nerd

Over a year and a half ago, I was fortunate to enter a contest on Mother. Write. (Repeat.) and suck big time. So bad, I was eager (okay, maybe a little desperate) to snatch up Cassie's offer for a critique partner. She was writing a YA fantasy that was a lot of fun to read and I wrote a YA post apocalyptic fraught with "that", "just", "very" and all the other beginner words that are entirely unnecessary. Cassie changed my ways.

The next book she sent me to critique was this can't-put-down, where-do-you-come-up-with-this-hilarity?, you've-found-your-voice, THIS-IS-THE-ONE! story. And, although it's been a long time coming, it's almost here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy ‘you only wish you were me’ reputation, burying who she really is—an all-out nerd.

The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Keeping up her popular rep is too important, and she’s so damn insecure to care about the consequences. But when Zoe’s sister takes her car for a ‘crash and burn into a tree’ joyride, her parents get her a replacement. A manual. Something she doesn’t know how to operate, but her next door neighbor Zak sure as heck does.

Zak’s a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing “Use the Force” t-shirts. And Zoe’s got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn’t want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe.

She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.

IWSG

I got hired for the 2013-2014 school year! Yay! I'll be teaching second grade again at the school my kids go to, so double bonus!

Because I started teaching again this year, I've written about 1,001 words in 9 months. I'm trying to look at it like a much needed break to make me really appreciate how much I love to write.

And now that I have two months at home with my kids, I'll be writing as much as humanly possible. I'm so excited to get back into it! I've missed it so :) And you guys too!

Do you have any fun writing plans? Or vacation plans? I hope to see you around the blogosphere this summer!

Happy writing :)

Friday Night Alibi by Cassie Mae

The amazing Cassie Mae, what can I say about her . . . she's the best! And she has something new . . .

Advance praise for Friday Night Alibi

“Totally entertaining with as many swoon-worthy moments as hilarious ones, Friday Night Alibi is a must-read.”—Jolene Perry, co-author of Out of Play

“A fun, funny, and fantastic story, this is one you will read in a day, and pick up to re-read again the next.”—Kelley Lynn, author of Fraction of Stone

I tell ya, she is one of the most hilarious people on the planet, and she has an incredibly positive attitude. She's always there to lift people up with a funny or the kindest words possible. Here's a little bit more about her (in her own words) :)

Destiny Gift--Juliana Haygert

DESTINY GIFT by Julana Haygert (NA paranormal romance)

DestinyGift coverThirty years in the future, a sinister New York City exists in permanent darkness.

A student at the secured NYU, nineteen-year-old Nadine has visions of Victor Gianni, an imaginary guy she has real feelings for. Afraid of being truly insane, she explains the visions away as simple daydreams, but she can no longer deny them when she bumps into Victor in real life. But this Victor doesn’t know her, and turns her away. After the encounter, Nadine’s visions change to those of eerie fates, gods she’s never heard of, demons with sharp claws they are not too timid to use … and instructions.

To discover if she’s losing her mind, Nadine follows the vague directions—with the real, rude and reluctant Victor—leading to a man who knows it all: Nadine can restore an ancient creed by unveiling the clues on her visions, and bring sunlight and peace to the world again. But that’s only if the demons and the other evil forces behind the darkness don’t stop her first.

About the Author:
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

Excerpt:

I heard a heavy sigh and turned toward it. It was Victor. He was leaving the elevator down the hall and coming toward his grandma’s room. He had seen me and didn’t seem happy about it.

He wore faded jeans, a T-shirt, and a thin jacket. Too casual. I shook my head. The fact that my dream Victor and this real Victor were exactly the same physically, while their clothing styles and posture were the opposite of each other still boggled my mind.

He came to a stop before me. “You again.” There was disdain in his tone. I cringed.

“How are you?” I managed to ask and immediately felt silly. I had planted myself here in this hallway for over an hour waiting for him, and when he finally arrived, I didn’t know what to say. Though I really did want to know how he was. The last time I had seen him in the flesh, he’d been jerking on the floor of the hospital’s garage, in pain. “What was that … ah … before …?”” I trailed off, hoping he would understand what I was referring to.

He shrugged, his sea-green eyes still staring at me with suspicion. “I don’t know. By the way, how do you know my name?”

I twirled a lock of my hair around my index finger as I considered my answer. I wanted to answer him. I wanted to be honest, but he would never believe me.

As if my answer would pop out of the walls, I scanned the hallway.

At the end of the corridor, a nurse left a room and entered another.

“The nurse,” I almost shouted, hoping he wouldn’t notice my sudden lie. I avoided his inquisitive eyes. “I heard a nurse calling you earlier that day.”

His deadpan expression hid his thoughts and didn’t let me know if he was buying it or not.

“What did you do to me last night?” he asked, crossing his arms. God, I hated how his voice and his posture were so guarded and mistrustful. I wasn’t used to it.

“What do you mean?”

“When you touched me, the shock and the pain went away. How did you do that?”

“I don’t know.” This time I wasn’t lying. I really didn’t know. He frowned, clearly still suspicious. “Seriously, I have no idea.”

His shoulders stiffened. “What are you doing here? What do you want?”

My eyes widened as I retreated a few steps, trying to avoid his toxic tone.

Yes, he looked like my Victor—the same voice, the same hair, the same face, the same mouth that had offered me smiles that had rendered me breathless many, many times. I wanted to touch him, to embrace him, to tell him everything was going to be okay. Maybe if I touched him, he would remember me and he would want to touch me too.

I came closer to him, looking deeply into those wary green eyes, my fingers itching to stroke his skin, to feel it smoldering under my caress. But I didn’t. He was like my Victor, but he wasn’t my Victor. The Victor from my visions would never speak to me like this. He would never snap at me. No, no. My Victor loved my company, loved to hear me sing, loved to embrace me and inhale my scent.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice croaking under the heavy pressure inside my chest.

Then, I walked away.

Fraction of Stone--Kelley Lynn

I met Kelley through Fraction of Stone and fell in love with her writing instantly. Emotional, adventurous, and beautifully detailed, this story has it all! Before we dive into Fraction of Stone, let’s get to know Kelley a wee bit more J

Kelley is an engineer by day and writes, sings, paints, plays a bazillion sports, runs half marathons, and conquers trivia by night. If you looked up Renaissance woman in the dictionary, this is what you would see . . .

So my first question, my dear Kelley, is how do you accomplish so much?
Well, as my coworker likes to say, I’m an orphan. J Meaning I don’t have a family of my own yet so I get to decide what I want to do with my time. It also helps that I don’t spend a whole lot of time on the internet, watching TV or movies. (Just ask anyone about my movie knowledge. It’s nonexistent J)

One more thing about Kelley is that she has the most positive attitude on the planet. What is something that lifts your spirits and gives you strength?
Music. Definitely. My mood is so attached to music it’s crazy. Music also really helps me get in the mindset to write as well.

I’ve had the privilege of reading much of your writing (and it’s all brilliant!), can you share a bit about what you have on the horizon?
Sure! I’m about to go on sub mission for a YA Science Fiction. (solo project) Jenny Morris and I have been on sub for a bit with our YA Contemporary (fingers still crossedJ). And Jessica Salyer and I are just going on sub to agents for our YA Fairytale Parody. (New fingers crossedJ). So I don’t go insane, I’m writing a YA Thriller. Because waiting is torture! J

Favorites:
Favorite thing in your work bag/purse? Nook
Favorite place to hang out online? Oh Gosh. I don’t really. But sometimes I use facebook J
Favorite comfort food? Ice cream, pizza, sushi, cohocolate. And, and, and, haha.
Favorite smell? Rain
Favorite shoes? Running shoes

And now on to Kelley’s stunning release, Fraction of Stone . . .

Fraction of Stone by Kelley Lynn
Release Date: March 21st, 2013 by Sapphire Star Publishing
Genre: YA Fantasy

Book Description:

Wind tunnels, torrential rains and earthquakes tear apart Casden. The cause of the world’s imbalance is unknown, but the mounting occurrences suggest there’s little time before life ceases to exist.

Rydan Gale and Akara Nazreth are the only humans with the ability to wield magic. The tattoo on their necks and the discovery of an ancient book, dictate they are the key to the world’s survival.

But the greatest obstacle for saving mankind isn’t the bizarre creatures, extreme betrayals and magic-fearing men hunting them.

It’s that Akara doesn’t believe the world is worth saving.

About the Author:

Eventually the day came when the voices in Kelley Lynn’s head were more insistent then her engineering professor’s. So instead of turning to her Thermodynamics book, Kelley brought up a blank page on her computer screen and wrote. Somewhere along the way she became a Young Adult author.

Kelley was born and raised a Midwestern girl. She’s not afraid to sweat and fills her free time with softball, soccer and volleyball. (Though you probably don’t want her on your volleyball team.) She occasionally makes guest appearances as a female vocalist for area bands.

You can find Kelley hanging out at her blog, titled in her name, as well as the group blog she shares with her fellow critique partners, Falling for Fiction. Kelley is a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators.

Bit by the bug!

Instead of talking about an insecurity today, I'm going to share a tiny celebration. I've been bit by the writing bug and it feels GR-R-REAT!

Bee Writing on LeafIt's been a while (uh, more than a while) since I've had a thought lasting longer than two seconds, a healthy immune system, and a smidgen of energy left for myself.

But the other day, my brain began solidifying from the mushy state I've muddled through for the first half of the school year. My energy returned after nearly a month of catching every germ known to mankind from my darling students. My house was somewhat clean and oraganized. My kids weren't screaming bloody murder, actually they were playing Wii . . . together. And basketball season has (mostly) ended. Life is good.

I think I'll enjoy this bug bite for a while.         freestockimages.com

Happy writing :)
