Reconnecting with Banana Slugs

freedigitalphotos.net

For one month, our internet was on the fritz. Let me tell ya, not having an online connection could top the list at being the most annoying thing ever! Sure, I can live without it, but we're talking quality of life here. Not being able to email regularly, create blog posts, read blog comments, put books on hold at the library, update my Netflix queue, reply to birthday messages on Facebook, and the million other time-sucking-internet-things-I-do, was driving me insane!

I need this outlet! I need you guys!

Anyhow, after a dozen phone calls (none under 30 minutes), at least five "help tickets" (my ass they're help tickets), and three technicians, we have a new line drilled into our house and a solid green light on our wireless router! SO EXCITING! I can finally attempt to catch up with all of you and find out what you've been up to :)

Thumbnail for version as of 01:34, 2 March 2007And for those of you who read my What I Did Last Summer stories and weren't sure what a banana slug is, here you go . . .

Now, imagine one plopping onto your shoulder. GROSS! Do you have a slug story?

What have you been up to in September?

I'm over at FFF today too with the marvelous Melissa Maygrove. Come check us out :)

  1. Hi Hope! I can so relate. Last year we were out of an internet connection for 3 very, very long weeks. It was awful and I ended up going to my mom's to check e-mail! And banana slug poop LOL! That's a story you don't hear everyday! And thank for the follow. I'm going to be stalking you now too. (:

    1. I'm a teacher (a substitute) so the internet is SUPER limited :( I brought my own laptop in once to try to connect and I wasn't allowed. Can't have those kids blogging :)

  4. Yeah, UC Santa Cruz's mascot is the banana slug. And you know that if you touch those giant slugs it burns them right? The only way to touch them is to kiss them (since your lips don't sweat).

Now I've probably grossed a bunch of people out...

    1. Seriously? Who would pick a slug as a mascot? What good are they? That's not a very lofty goal to try to be as good as a slug! Yuckers!

And kissing a slug, people are just crazy! I am grossed out :( :)

  5. Yay for the Internet!

Banana slugs are gross. Every Washingtonian has had an encounter with them, but I've never had one drop on me. Ick!

  7. Hope you're baaack!!!! *hugs* This September I started a rewrite. Yes, REWRITE. O.o My brain is fried but excited. I'm glad your internet got fixed - that must have been very frustrating to deal with. Let me know if you still want my eyes on your Feather of a Bird story, I'll be happy to take a look. (Today I blogged about my own WIP/novel.)

    1. A REWERITE, that's exciting! I've been toying with that idea, but feel overwhelmed so I run away from it :)
I'll be in touch about you reading Birds of a Feather :) Thanks! I'd love that!

  8. I feel you on the lack of internet. I have no wifi at my new place, it's awful. Which means on my days off from work, I dwell in the basement of the local library. I'm pretty sure they know me by my first name here... :/ It's an adjustment for sure. Congrats on having yours back!

  9. Ewww. We have no banana slugs, thank goodness. Our slugs are tiny. And not yellow. And we rarely see them, unless you're digging in a slug infested plant. Which I don't do very often.

    Glad to have you back.

    1. I will never forget these lunatics at a campground holding a banana slug and watching it crawl over their hand, totally in awe of the vile thing. All us Washingtonians gave them odd looks as we walked by. Even if you've never seen a banana slug, or a slug, why would anyone want to pick it up? So gross!

  10. I have a slug story. At the flower shop, I was inside the walk-in cooler. To get out of the cooler, I bump my hip hard into the door then push with my palm... only this one time, I felt something squishy and slimy when I pushed on the door. Yes, it was a slug-- cream colored with brown streaks in it and super duper long.
I ran out of the cooler screaming like a banshee. Thank goodness my dad came to the rescue. LOL We think it came in one of the boxes of greenery.
I always look at the door before I leave the cooler now.

  11. I am so happy! I was starting to really worry about you! I'm glad it was an internet issue and not something horrible - although I think a month without internet is pretty horrible, too. :)

My slug story is only that I saw banana slugs for the first (and only time) in the Redwood Forest. I don't know what I'd do if one dropped on my shoulder, but I didn't want to touch them, for sure!
